Room2 Belfast opened its doors to the public in October 2023. As an eclectic hometel, the designers at Lamington Group set out to create a space where guests can take the comforts of being at home and integrate this with all the benefits expected from a hotel – in the rooms, kitchenettes therefore make the stays feel flexible and appealing to a wide range of audiences, from city breaks to families and regular business travellers.
The look and feel of the hometel captures the city’s vibrant pulse, steeped in a rich history while enveloping guests in a warm embrace of comfort. Lamington used bold and playful colours while contrasting these with a palette of warm and natural materials. This positioned the design focus on celebrating local crafts people and artists, while also maximising the amount of sustainable and circular waste products used. For instance, two rooms in the hometel are used as lab rooms which provide real-time granular information on energy, water and air quality. Learnings from these labs can be used to see how sustainability interventions are working in practice, such as testing new appliances or technologies or introducing signage for water usage.
